Modular aluminum access ramp with round handrail

The shape of the handrail is what your loved one actually holds. Ours is round — the shape that gives the most encircling grip, recommended when grip strength is reduced. RBQ-compliant, installed with no piles.

RBQ-compliant PAD / PEA eligible 1:12 slope Maintenance-free
The detail everyone forgets

People compare length, slope, price. Almost never the shape of the handrail.

Yet it's the part a person grips on every climb and every descent. Our modular aluminum access ramp with round handrail is designed first for the hand: a round, continuous profile on both sides that allows an encircling grip where a square bar leaves edges and pressure points. Everything else — maintenance-free aluminum, non-slip surface, pile-free installation, custom configuration — rounds out a ramp built above all to be held with confidence.

The decisive advantage

Why a round handrail changes everything

The shape of a handrail isn't an aesthetic detail: it's a safety factor. A round profile lets the hand close fully around the bar — the "encircling" grip required by accessibility standards.

  • 1
Full, natural grip. Our 38 mm profile (RBQ standard: 30 to 43 mm) lets the hand wrap completely around the bar, with no edge that cuts off circulation.
  • 2
Ideal for reduced grip. Arthritis, muscle weakness, loss of dexterity — the round shape takes less effort to hold and to slide the hand along.
  • 3
Continuous and snag-free. The hand slides without stopping the full length, on both sides, right through the rest landings.
Handrail profiles compliant with the Quebec Construction Code: circular section of 30 to 43 mm (our 38 mm round handrail) and non-circular sections, based on figure 3.4.6.5.-A of the RBQ Building Accessibility Guide

30–43 mm

That's the diameter prescribed by the Quebec Construction Code for a graspable circular handrail (figure 3.4.6.5.-A of the Building Accessibility Guide, RBQ). The code also allows non-circular profiles, but our round 38 mm handrail gives the most encircling grip, around the entire bar.

Frequently asked questions

Everything to know before ordering

Why choose a round handrail over a square one?

The 38 mm round handrail we install meets the diameter prescribed by the Quebec Construction Code (30 to 43 mm for a circular section) and allows an encircling grip around the entire bar. It is more comfortable and safer for people with reduced grip strength, particularly with arthritis or muscle weakness.

Is the ramp eligible for subsidies in Quebec?

Yes. The access ramp is specialized equipment eligible for the Home Adaptation Program (PAD) for individuals, and the Small Accessible Establishments (PEA) program for shops and organizations. Groupe We Care holds a valid RBQ license, required for these programs.

Do you need to pour piles or dig to install it?

No. The modular aluminum ramp installs with no digging, no piles and no pile foundation. Installation is fast, clean and fully reversible: the ramp can be dismantled, moved or reused if you relocate.

What slope must an access ramp meet in Quebec?

The recommended slope is 1:12 (about 4.8 degrees), in accordance with the Quebec Construction Code. That means a ramp length of roughly 12 times the height of the rise. Rest landings are provided for longer runs.

Can it be rented for an event or a polling station?

Yes. We offer rental for temporary needs: events, festivals, elections, job sites or recovery. Contact us with the duration and configuration you need.
