Slope standard for wheelchair ramp
The “Switch back” can be used when you want to save space so change the direction of the ramp, but the turns must be either 90 degrees or 180 degrees. If the change of direction is 180 degrees, the wheelchair landing to make the turn must be twice as long as necessary for a 90-degree turn and must not have a slope.
The CNBC ( Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation ) recommends that wheelchair ramps should have 1 inch of rise for every 12 inches of length known as (RUN: The horizontal length of a sloping surface) . This makes the wheelchair slope required a ratio of 1:12. If the person needs an easier slope, either 1:16 or 1:20 can be used, but before making such a decision, it is advisable to speak with your occupational therapist.
